An Experienced Ecommerce Adviser In Your Corner

Running a successful ecommerce business means making a constant stream of decisions.
Some are small. Others can affect your sales, profit, cashflow, team, workload or the future value of the business for years to come.
And as the founder, those decisions usually end up with you.
I work with founders of established ecommerce businesses as an ongoing strategic adviser - someone you can talk things through with, bounce ideas off, challenge your thinking and help you work out what to do next.
Think of it as having an experienced ecommerce Non-Executive Director alongside you - someone who knows your business, challenges your thinking and helps you make better decisions, without needing to formally join the company.

I only work with a small number of businesses on an ongoing basis at £1500 +VAT pm. If you think this could be useful, complete the short application above. If it looks like a good fit, we'll arrange a conversation to talk about your business and make sure the relationship is right for both of us.
”Gary's knowledge, expertise and insights are priceless. He straight away was able to pinpoint a strategy that works and recommend implementing things we hadn’t considered. Extremely kind, professional and very generous with his knowledge and help. I would 100% recommend working with Gary.”
”Gary talked us through so many basic things we were missing, which once we put in place, we felt like why hadn't we been doing that before! He took so much care with our company, and worked with me and my team to implement his advice so we could really understand what we were doing. Highly recommend!”

Ongoing advice and support
This isn't a fixed programme with a predetermined list of things we'll work through.
And I'm not there to arrive every month with another report or create work for the sake of creating work.
I'll get to know you, your business, what you're trying to achieve and the challenges you're dealing with.
Then we concentrate on whatever matters most.
One month that might be growth. The next it could be profitability, cashflow, a difficult recruitment decision or whether to make a major investment.
We might talk about why the business has hit a wall, whether you should enter a new market, how to reduce your involvement in the day-to-day or what needs to change if you eventually want to sell.
The agenda is whatever your business needs.
Sometimes you need someone outside the business
As your business grows, making decisions can actually become harder rather than easier.
You have employees, agencies, suppliers, accountants and other people around you.
But that doesn't necessarily mean you have someone you can talk openly to about the business itself. Someone you can ask:
Are we heading in the right direction?
Would you make this investment?
Should we hire this person?
Why aren't we making more money?
Are we concentrating on the wrong things?
How do I get myself out of doing everything?
What would you do next?
Sometimes you simply want a second opinion from somebody who understands what it is like to run a business and has no agenda other than helping you make the right decision.
Apply now: £1500 + VAT monthly.
Ongoing strategic support, including a monthly strategy session and access between meetings for occasional questions and second opinions.
I work with a limited number of businesses in this way, so the first step is a short application to make sure the relationship is likely to be useful for both of us.
What can we work on?
Pretty much anything that materially affects the performance, value or future of your business. That can include:
Growth and where the next stage should come from
Profitability and founder earnings
Cashflow and working capital
Marketing performance and where money is being wasted
Conversion, retention and customer value
Hiring and senior team decisions
Agencies, suppliers and external partners
Operations and fulfilment
Technology and systems
Business strategy and priorities
New products, channels or markets
Founder dependency
Getting yourself out of the day-to-day
Preparing the business for an eventual sale
Difficult decisions where you simply want another experienced perspective
You don't need to fit your problem into a predefined consultancy service. If it's important to you and your business, we'll cover it.
Why Gary?
I’ve spent more than 20 years starting, running, growing, investing in and advising ecommerce businesses.
That means I’ve dealt with many of the same decisions, problems and pressures that come with running a business - growth, cashflow, profitability, people, difficult choices, things that worked and plenty that didn’t.
These days, much of my work involves stepping back from the day-to-day, looking at a business objectively and helping founders think through the decisions that matter.
Sometimes that means spotting something they’re too close to see. Sometimes it’s challenging an assumption, bringing a different perspective or simply helping them work through the options with someone who understands the realities of running an ecommerce business.
That’s exactly what this ongoing advisery is for.

What this looks like
We'll have a regular strategy session each month, giving us dedicated time to step away from the day-to-day and look properly at what is happening in the business.
Because we're working together on an ongoing basis, I build up an understanding of the business over time.
I know what you've tried.
I know what you're working towards.
I know the decisions we've already made and why we made them.
And I can spot when something we're discussing today contradicts something we agreed three months ago.
That continuity matters. You're not starting again every time you need advice.
And between our regular sessions, you'll also have access to me for the occasional question, second opinion or decision that can't sensibly wait until the next meeting.

How this differs from a Private Strategy Session
If you have one particular problem or decision you'd like help with, my 90-minute Private Strategy Session may be all you need.
Ongoing advisory is different.
Over time, I get to know the business properly. I understand the numbers, the people, the history, your ambitions and the things you've already tried.
That means our conversations can go much deeper and we can follow decisions through rather than simply discussing them once.
A Private Strategy Session helps you work through an issue.
Ongoing Strategic Advisory gives you someone alongside you as you run the business.
”Gary and I connected some time ago and I've enjoyed his refreshing takes on e-commerce. We've had a couple of calls and throughout Gary's objective approach to the customer journey has been insightful and we've implemented the ideas he's mentioned. Thoroughly recommend anyone in e-comm to have a chat!”
”Gary's knowledge and analytical approach to e-commerce is immense. He works on the small details that drive profitability with processes, systems & KPI's that many haven't thought of or use.”
